Reflections on the Reconstruction of Historical Materialism by Western Left Theorists——Based on the Analysis of Perry Anderson, David Harvey and Anthony Giddens

Abstract: The reconstruction of historical materialism has always been one of the focuses of the Western leftist scholars. The western leftist scholars, represented by Perry Anderson, David Harvey and Anthony Giddens, interpreted and developed historical materialism from the angle of history, geography-space, modernity and so on respectively. Three theorists’ research perspectives, paradigms, contents and purposes are different, but none of them transcended historical materialism, and did not establish a complete theoretical system of historical materialism.
