Sister Huang: from Daily Life Tradition to Cultural Brand

Abstract: As the flower drum beating classics during Ta Hsi ritual process of the Tujia ethnic people who live in the Qing river basin, Sister Huang is composed in daily life, sung far and wide among local people. It achieved its initial fame in the field of the flower-drum, but goes beyond that, and will remain popular and famous with the flower-drum, performing in village as well as urban stage. Hence its transformation from countryside folk art to cultural brand has been completed, becoming a symbol of local culture and the ethnic group.
