Abstract: Skywalker describes the main line of the destinies of rural teachers who became state employed from non-state employed teachers. “Boundary ridge” is the epitome of countryside, revealing the predicaments of education, economy, politics and other aspects on the road of China’s modernization from other aspects. In the process of widening the gap between the countryside and the city, the countryside is so helpless that it is like an “isolated island”. Liu Xinglong tries to use the spiritual strength of non-state employed teachers to rescue the realistic predicament, and the “boundary ridge” has become a spiritual highland of Shen Congwen’s “border town”. The choice stemmed from his “love” to the native land and his understanding of the “noble” qualities of literature. Spiritual redemption provides a gesture of literature’s involvement in reality, which is also the expression of the author’s ideal humanity.
