Industrial Co-agglomeration’s Impact on Total Factor Productivity: A Study of the Spatial Effect Based on Spatial Durbin Model Test of 246 Chinese Cities

Abstract: Space Durbin Model is adopted in this paper since industrial co-agglomeration and total factor productivity(TFP) bear spatial correlation. An empirical test, based on this model, of the panel data (2003-2014) of 246 Chinese cities of prefecture-level and above reveals such findings as follows: 1) their correlation presents a negative spatial spillover, more remarkable and prominent in Eastern China; 2) such a negative effect is maintained even for industrial co-agglomeration in different situations, while a positive effect is produced on technological progress; 3) the positive and negative weights the same, i.e. the pattern is not obvious when comes to the effect on the production scale change.
