Abstract: In the transformation from a traditional intellectual into modern intellectual, and from a bourgeois democrat into a Marxist, Li Dazhao’s understanding of traditional culture had been developing and deepening continuously. He focused his research on Confucius, Confucianism and cultural differences between East and West. His traditional cultural thought has practical significance. It indicates that in the process of promoting cultural advancement, we should stand on the forefront of the times and understand the traditional culture on strategic level. It is also necessary to deal with the relationship between East and West culture based on our own national culture. Furthermore, we should accurately grasp the developing direction of advanced culture under the guidance of scientific theory.
