A Comparative Study on Passive Sentences Goulou Cantonese and Zhuang Languages

Abstract: Passive sentence, a kind of unique sentence pattern of Goulou Cantonese and Zhuang language, its existence and development are not only related to the characteristics of sentence structure, but constrained by the grammar change of content words and the usage of auxiliary words. As expressions of passive category in different languages share commonalities and variations, it is necessary to make a comparison of intercultural similar sentences so as to study the passive sentences. In this thesis, the author analyzes comparatively four representatives of Goulou Cantonese and three ones of Zhuang languages respectively to discuss their characteristics such as passive marker, structure type and semantic features, etc. The author figures out the characteristics of the two languages, which is not only good for us to go deep into the sentence pattern, syntactic structure and the development of function words, but tackle the standing controversies in the study of passive voice in various language.
