Abstract: Liang Zhangju made it a fundamental recording principle that only the poems of the poets in Yuexi (the present western Guangdong and southeastern Guangxi) could be included in his Collection of Elitists’ Poems in Three Jurisdictions. The poems of anonymous poets were not included, but those of the deceased poets were; the poets’ titles and status or their relationship with the editors could not affect the selecting standard. The artistry of the poems was the uppermost standard, which is “poetry in poetry”. The collection chose those masters’ poems with profound purport, sincere feelings, blending scene and affection, and beautiful rhythm. The less famous poets’ masterpieces were also included. Only those poems of formal standard could be recorded; as for the suite poems, Liang discarded the dross and selected the essence as well. “Choosing poems according to poets”, was another record standard which only selected the poems of those poets who were more famous than their poems. The regionalism, preciseness, literature and artistry made the Collection of Elitists’ Poems in Three Jurisdictions surpass the preceding crop, and became a poetry collection of multitudinous poems and complete styles. However, the limitation of regionalism which made the two record standards incompatible, and lack of clear standards of artistry, all these showed some rough edges in the compiling of this collection

Key words: Collection of Elitists’ Poems in Three Jurisdictions, Liang Zhangju, poetry, recording standard
