Abstract: The universal classifiers refer to the classifier that possesses different semantic features with measurement, and meanwhile that can be combined with nouns belonging to different semantic features. From the standpoint of typology, the strength of the cross-class combination of the universal classifiers can be divided into four grades: strong cross-class universal classifiers, relatively strong cross-class universal classifiers, weak cross-class universal classifiers and relatively weak cross-class universal classifiers. In addition, the hierarchy level of universal classifiers in semantic generalization can be described as weaker to weak to strong to stronger.
