Abstract: The parallel prose was renascent in the Qing Dynasty, and its centrality was in the Jiangnan area (the south to the Yangtze River). The number of famous writers or representative parallel prose writers at all levels in the Jiangnan area was larger than in any other area. Many factors brought about the rise of parallel prose in Jiangnan in the Qing dynasty, and four of the most direct ones arethe oppressive and guiding nature of political and cultural policy, the culmination of Jiangnan area’s textual criticism in the Qing dynasty, the close relevance of Jiangnan writers in geography and kinship, and the attention and advocating of Chen Zilong, Zhang Pu etc. in the late Ming Dynasty.
