On the Attributive Problems of the Type of Indexical Signs

Abstract: The attributive problem of the type of indexical signs is one of the core differences in semiotic typology. However, either Pierce semiotics or Saussure’s semiotics did not pay enough attention to the linguistic indexical signs. Peirce confused the non-language indexes with language indexes and caused the inconsistency of the symbolic classification system. With the help of Yemschev’s thoughts of Biplanar structure and double articulation, the indexical signs can be clearly distinguished. Both the deixis and reference are two fundamental ways of signification in language system, and compared with reference, the characteristic of deixis is the functionalization and its double correlation in reality.
