Problems and Reflections on the Study of Marxism Abroad in China

Abstract: The main obstacles that lie ahead of an thorough study of Marxism abroad in China include 1) failure to reach a consensus on the definition of both the research object and scope; 2) failure to grasp the development logic as a whole resulted from “data review”, an abstract paradigm; 3) increasingly vague value position. To cope with that, accordingly, the object and scope of the study should be defined, a shift to the “problem-oriented” paradigm, a unity of theory and practice, be realized, a value position of “Sinicization of Marxist Philosophy” adopted. By doing that, this paper is aimed to grasp the internal logic and theoretical problems of the research, explore the history of interpretation, communication and acceptance of Marxist research abroad in China, thus revealing its theoretical and practical effects.
