Mao Zedong’s Eco-linguistic Thought in the Period of New Democratic Revolution

Abstract: Although Mao Zedong did not put forward “ecological linguistics” in the period of New Democratic Revolution, his linguistic ethics in the practice of revolution contains the thought of Eco-linguistics. This paper analyzes his thought of ecological linguistics from three aspects. First, the practice of the Sinicization and popularization of Marxism gave birth to Mao Zedong’s Eco-linguistic thought. Second, Mao Zedong preferred the recognized linguistic forms, advocated the simplicity of language, and wanted the language to serve the people. This is the generalization of his Eco-linguistic thought. Third, Rectification Movement reflected the profound practice course of Mao Zedong’s ecological linguistic thought.
