The Capital of “Others”: “Chinese path to modernization” from a Comparative Perspective

Abstract: Positioning and understanding Chinese path to modernization in a comparative framework will help to grasp the Chinese characteristics based on its national conditions on the basis of grasping the global characteristics.In the initial stage, China's modernization started from thecatch-up through the comparison between tradition and modernity, followed by China's having been learning from “others”, or any “stronger”. In realizing China's modernization, we should avoid falling into the two extremes between defending “tradition” and accepting overall westernization. In view of this, we should summarize the common characteristics of modernization in various countries, guide the modernization process of the country with a complete modernization plan, and accurately position the target mode of modernization between the general trend of modernization and national subjectivity.
