Research on the Adaptation of Religion to Socialism ——An Example of Building a Well-off Society in an All-round Way in Guangxi

Abstract: Religion is a major issue concerning the modernization of social governance in ethnic minority areas. Through empirical investigation, the current situation of religion in Guangxi can be illustrated as follows: religion has group features; Buddhism is the most influential religion; the less educated and the elderly are more apt to have religious belief; and most religion believers have utilitarian purposes. Religion contains two factors, while its positive value outweighs the negative. In order to realize the Common Ideal of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics and build a well-off society in an all-round way, the role of religion should not be ignored. Therefore, we should adapt religion to socialism and exploit its functioning in building the well-off society. The strategies are as follows: firstly, we should insist on Marxist standpoint, viewpoint and method in recognizing and dealing with religion; secondly, to promote religion to adapt to Chinese reality; thirdly, proper concepts from religion which conform to the five concepts in development should be absorbed; fourthly, we should utilize religion to strengthen international exchanges and cooperation.
