On the Discipline Construction of Comparative Education since the Adoption of China’s Reform and Opening-up: A Review and Prediction Based on An Analysis of the Journals Papers Selected from Comparative Education Review

Abstract: The 5269 journal papers published in Comparative Education Research since the adoption of China’s Reform and Opening-up are taken as the objects of our research. Literature metrology and content analysis are employed with indices such as hot topic, author, author affiliation in order to reveal the status quo of the development of comparative education and its trend. The results show that 1) in terms of research hots-pot, “comparative higher education research” enjoys a priority; 2) in terms of research subject, comparative education is circled around a group of core institutions with normal colleges and universities as the backbone of discipline construction; 3) in terms of author, only few are listed as academic elites and high-yielding writers are small in number, to cope with which, the cultivation of core talents should be accelerated; 4) in terms of research object, there lies in two shifts: one from focus on single developed country with one dimension to an all-round study of all countries worldwide, one from a one-way study, a macro view to a two-way approach, both macro and micro running side by side.
