Marx’s Ethical Thoughts and Moral Relativism

Abstract: Marx’s ethical thoughts can provide vital thought resources and methodological basis for us to reflect on and deal with moral relativism, which has not been paid much attention in the field of ethics research so far. The concept of “history” and “practice” are more fundamental bases for the analysis of moral relativism and understanding of Marx’s thoughts. Analyzing the Marxist argument about whether Marx is a moral relativist reflects an either/or mode of thinking. Only in the perspective of historical materialism and in the framework of a dynamic historical process can we truly understand and explain Marx’s moral outlook and make a profound analysis and criticism of moral relativism.
